Who are Yippii?

Yippii is an Australian owned and operated telecommunications company. We are committed to providing a high-quality, reliable VoIP service which means dramatically lower call costs for you.

How does the Yippii service work?

The Yippii service is very similar to a traditional service except you connect to "a network" using your internet connection.  Moreover, the cool thing about the Yippii service is that you can use it on your PC, landline or (compatible) mobile phone.  The Yippii service allows you to make free phone calls to other people who are also using the Yippii network (or any other service running on the Voicedot network). It also allows you to make extremely inexpensive calls to mobile or landline numbers via Yippii's connectivity to the normal PSTN network.

How can Yippii save me money?

Yippii calls are much cheaper than calls through most landlines or mobiles. For example, on some of our monthly plans, calls to any Australian landline are FREE and "untimed", whilst mobile calls are from just 15¢ / minute.

Why use Yippii?

Because you can save up to 70% on your phone calls!  There are other advantages as well - there's no line rental, your number travels with you, and voicemail is free.  We also have some pretty exciting services planned that will also cost less than the traditional telecommunications organisations. Yippi is also a great way to get additional lines for your home or office as each Yippii plan account includes a standard local phone number so your can receive calls too!

Why is Yippii cheaper than the others?

Because our calls are sent over the internet and "our network", rather than just using the traditional phone network! We pass on our savings and the cheaper call rates.  Remember that we do connect to the traditional phone networks when you call someone on their landline or mobile, so we do get charged to use them but we still pass on the savings!

What codecs does Yippii use?

The Yippii Softphone uses the ILBC and Speex codecs, our SPA3102 ATA uses G.729 or G.711.

What is QoS and how does it affect me?

QoS is a feature that may be available in your router or modem/router that is used to prioritizes specific traffic ahead of other internet traffic. This allows users to surf the internet and talk on the phone at the same time, with the voice traffic being given priority. If your modem/router supports QoS, you should enable it for Yippii. You'll want to apply QoS rules to  SIP traffic, which will help ensure that you get the highest quality calls. If you need help, please contact us for more information on how to do this.

What do I need to join Yippii?

To sign up on one of our great monthly plans, you will need a valid Mastercard or Visa card.  In some cases, you may need to provide us with some proof of address to receive your standard Australian phone number.

How is Yippii different from other internet phone providers?

Yippii is an Australian-owned VoIP provider with a strong presence. We have our own infrastructure and are supported by the world-leading Voicedot network and technology.

What speed internet connection do I need to use Yippii?

512/128k or greater broadband connection recommended for best results.  It will work at lower speeds, but you may experience less then ideal call quality.

Can I use Yippii through a dialup connection?

The Yippii internet phone can be used through a dialup connection, however we recommend a minimum speed of 512/128k Broadband.  If you wish to use Yippii through a dialup connection, we do not recommend any other use of your internet connection while in a call.

Can I use Yippii from anywhere in the world?

Yes! You can log into your Yippii account and make calls from anywhere in the world. Calls will be charged as though you were making a call from Australia. Using Yippii you'll never need to pay roaming charges again! Don't forget to take your Yippii account details with you when you go overseas on business or for a holiday. Of course - Yippii to Yippii calls are always completely free no matter where you are.

Do the people I call need to be on Yippii?

No. Yippii-to-Yippii (or any other person on the Voicedot network) calls are absolutely free and you can call any mobile or landline number at extremely low rates! Many of our customers find they save up to 70% by using the Yippii service from home and on their mobile.

Can anyone call me on my Yippii number?

Yes! You are assigned a standard Australian phone number that can be called from any mobile or landline. People on the Yippii (or Voicedot) network can call your Yippii number for free. Now You're Talking!

Can I call any landline or mobile from my Yippii account?

Yes. We offer dramatically lower rates than the traditional telecommunications organisations - see our plans here.  There is no flagfall and there are no charges for unanswered or busy calls.

Does Yippii give me a new home phone line?

In effect, Yippii provides you with an additional phone service - it just works via your internet connection. You are provided with a standard Australian phone number as well - and you even have the option of getting mutiple numbers for the same phone service. Using Yippi is a fast, cheap and easy way to get additonal phone services. Have you ever waited all day for an 'engineer' to come install a phone service? With Yippi, you can be up and running in just a few minutes!

Can I cancel my existing landline phone?

If you have a cable or wireless broadband connection, you may find that you no longer need your landline phone! All of your phone services can be provided by Yippii.  If you have an ADSL broadband connection, you will still need to keep your landline phone - however, you could downgrade to a cheaper plan and make all your outgoing calls via Yippii!

Can I keep my existing phone number?

Sure. Signing up on a Yippii plan will not affect your existing phone number or phone service in any way.

Can I choose my new number?

No, an available number will be allocated to you based on your address.

Can I use the same account in several places at the same time?

A Yippii number can only be active at one point on our network at one time. So if you're logged in on one PC, you can't be logged in with the same number on another PC or an ATA (eg our SPA3102). If you wish to have two telephones through the same Yippii account at different places within the same house, we suggest using a cordless phone base station with multiple cordless handsets plugged into an ATA, or registering multiple accounts instead.

Is conference calling available on your service?

If you use the Yippii Softphone we make conference calls easy and fun! Simply drag contacts together to host your own conference calls. You can also bring in any additional number, or transfer calls just like on an expensive phone system. And all of this for no extra costs!

Do I need to have my PC on to use Yippii?

If you're using the Yippii Softphone, then yes. You will have to have your PC on and be connected to the internet in order to make and receive calls. If you're using our Siemens Phone, Linksys SPA3102 ATA or a third-party VoIP hardware device, then no - you won't need your PC to be turned on. Hardware such as this is typically plugged into your internet connection or your router, not your PC. If you are not online or can't take the call Yippii will send callers to your free presonalised voicemail or even redirect the call to another number.

Can I browse the web while using Yippii?

Yes! The Yippii Softphone is a low-bandwidth application, so it should not interfere with typical web use.

Can I dial emergency numbers such as 000 through Yippii?

No. While we hope to be able to offer this service in the future, emergency numbers cannot currently be dialled through Yippii.

Can I use a fax through Yippii?

If you have one of our SPA3102 ATAs or a third-party VoIP hardware device, then you may be able to send and receive faxes through our service. You will need to use the G.711 codec and have at least a 512/128k broadband connection. However, we do not support this and we cannot guarantee that it will work with your hardware.
